New York City is a city that is often defined by its sleeplessness, its incessant hum of energy and movement. But where does this energy come from, how is it distributed, and how is it sustained? Through Sunless Ways follows this energy by way of light, moving across different neighborhoods in New York City from sunset to sunrise, and carried by the different patterns in which light is shed in the city. Five native New Yorkers of distinct backgrounds and neighborhoods share their personal relationships to light, as the film explores how their stories mirror much greater systems of power playing out across the city.
